Release Date: November 27, 2012
Paperback/e-book

Summary from Goodreads:
Trapped in the underground theater world of 1890s New Orleans, Hale Ferrer has only one goal: escape. But not without Teeny, the orphan-girl she rescued from the streets and promised to protect.

Freddie Lovel, Hale's wealthy Parisian suitor, seems to be the easy solution. If only his touch could arouse her interest like Beau's, the penniless stagehand who captures her heart.

Denying her fears, Hale is poised to choose love until an evil lurking in their cabaret-home launches a chain of events that could cost her everything.

(Mature YA/light historical/theater romance)

Review: Losing It by Cora Carmack!

Losing It
Release Date: 10/15/12
E-book
205 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
Virginity.

Bliss Edwards is about to graduate from college and still has hers. Sick of being the only virgin among her friends, she decides the best way to deal with the problem is to lose it as quickly and simply as possible-- a one-night stand. But her plan turns out to be anything but simple when she freaks out and leaves a gorgeous guy alone and naked in her bed with an excuse that no one with half-a-brain would ever believe. And as if if that weren't embarrassing enough, when she arrives for her first class of her last college semester, she recognizes her new theatre professor. She'd left him naked in her bed about 8 hours earlier.
***
Sex.
I was going to have sex.
With a boy.
A hot boy.

The blog blogosphere was buzzing last week with book lovers raving about Losing It.  Despite the fact that I have many books that I have been wanting to get to for MONTHS, I had to put them all aside and see what all the fuss was about this book.  From the very first page, in fact, the very first line, I was hooked.  100% hooked!

When college senior, Bliss confesses to her friend that she is still a virgin, her friend immediately comes up with a plan to get Bliss to lose her virginity, stat!  (After freaking out a little, of course)  Kelsey’s plan is to go to a bar and pick a guy to help Bliss with her…problem.  Just a random guy, no strings attached.  After a few minutes there, it quickly becomes obvious that Bliss can’t go through with it.  On her way out, a hot British guy catches her eye.  Oh yeah, he’s British.  I don’t have a thing for British guys (well, except Ed Westwick, but that’s a whole other story) but Garrick is so easy to fall for.  He was sweet and actually seemed to like her back, oh and he was handsome too.  After flirting for a while, Bliss decides this is the perfect guy for her plan.  They go back to her place and just when things are getting hot and heavy…Bliss totally freaks the freak out.  She makes up the most ridiculous excuse she could possibly think of and leaves Garrick alone.  Naked.  Despite the fact that it’s her apartment.

The next morning, Bliss goes to class and decides to put last night’s events behind her.  That’s kind of hard to do since Garrick is her new professor.  Despite the obvious (and awkward) tension between them, it’s obvious that there are real feelings there.  No matter how hard they try, they can’t seem to stay away from each other.  Will it be worth it to break the rules and give their relationship a chance?  And is Garrick the one she is meant to lose her V-card to?  Will she even be able to go through with it is probably the better question.

One of my favorite things about this book (well there are many actually) were the characters.  Bliss and Garrick were so well written that it was impossible not to connect with them.  Bliss was such a realistic and believable character and holy crap was she awkward as hell!  This makes for some very hilarious moments between them.  Even though Garrick is not usually the type of (fictional) character I usually go for, (you know, the nice ones) I found myself completely under his spell, much like Bliss.  Their relationship was funny, sweet, awkward and HOT!  I can’t wait to read Cora Carmack’s next book, a companion to Losing It about Bliss’s best friend Chad!  Losing It was the perfect example of why I love Indie books and New Adult books.  This book had it all!  Go see for yourself what all the fuss is about and prepare yourself for a whole lot of awesome and sexy awkwardness!

4.5 out of 5 sparkly stars!

Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from Losing It:
-“Seriously?  Is it because of Jesus?  Are you, like, saving yourself for him?”  Sex seemed simpler for Kelsey.  She had the body of a Barbie and the sexually-charged brain of a teenage boy.
“No, Kelsey,” I said.  “It would be a little difficult to save myself for someone who died over two thousand years ago.”

-Clearly, I was not meant to have sex.  This was God telling me that I was meant to be a nun.  Get thee to a nursery, and all that crap.
I was so delirious I was confusing God and Shakespeare.

-I took a deep breath, reminding myself that I was awesome.  I was not insecure or shy.  I was just a virgin.  No big deal.  And if I ever wanted to not be a virgin, I was going to have to have sex.  Time to man, um…woman up.

-Damn, why couldn’t I just snap my fingers and not be a virgin anymore?  Why did sex have to be involved?

-Then he pressed me into the computer table behind me and kissed me.
I gasped in shock, and his tongue stormed by mouth.  I did nothing but blink, and then he lifted me onto the table, his hips fitted between my open thighs, and his mouth burned against my own.

Swoon Thursday (63): We Bring The Hotness

It's that time again! We created a HOT meme, and if you're new to the game, here's how to join in the fun:

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog. We want to know!

I admit I had to fan myself over a few of this week's HOT kisses. Whew! YA authors definitely know how to bring the steam. Did YOU come across any particularly hot ones in your reading this week? If so, please them in the comments! You can never read too many, am I right?

RACHEL:   Swooning over Hidden by Sophie Jordan:
He hesitates only a moment before pulling me closer, tighter against him. Desperation burns between us. His hands move from my hair, to my arms, and my back. Roaming, touching me everywhere. As if I might disappear from him in the flash of a second. He spins me until my back is pressed against the brick wall. His mouth, my mouth...there is no distinction...
There's only need.

KELLY: Swooning over  Painted Blind by Michelle Hansen:
Carefully, he raised my chin and pressed his lips to mine. For a moment he paused, and I thought he'd pull away, but he drew me into his arms and parted my lips with his. Something inside me burst, sending sparklers glittering through my body. His kiss overpowered me with a sense of perfect well-being and... love.

TARA: Swooning over Violet Midnight by Lynn Rush:
Despite her chilled skin, his body flamed, burned with need to be closer. To feel more of her. All of her. He leaned heavy into her body, his thigh wedged between her legs.

TRISH: Swooning over Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor:
Her fingertips danced over him and he shook and crushed her to him and the kiss was so much more than a kiss now.

EILEEN: Swooning over Venom by Fiona Paul:
And then Falco's mouth was on hers, burning hot, but softer than she'd imagined. And Cass felt her whole body tense up and then go weak. Blindly, she reached out for one of his hands, lacing their fingers together.

NEREYDA: Swooning over Clash by Nicole Williams

-With one flick of his fingers, my bra snapped free from my back, sliding down my arms until it landed on the floor beside Jude's feet.  His mouth covered  mine again, hot and unyielding.  I couldn't breathe.  I didn't want to if it meant not being able to kiss Jude like he was kissing me right now.  How he could make me feel his passion, his love, and his possession in one kiss was inexplicable.  But he could .  Jude's body expressed his feelings, more often than not, better than his words.

Spotlight: Violet Midnight by Lynn Rush

Let the Hunt begin…

Blending in with her college co-eds proves difficult for vampire Hunter, Emma Martin, considering the mystical tattoo on her wrist glows whenever Vamps are near. And after three months of silence, the glow is back with a vengeance.

Jake Cunningham witnesses Emma, a violet-eyed beauty, using unimaginable powers to fight off a fanged creature. Finally, after two years of searching, he may have found out what he’s become—a Hunter, like Emma.

Thankful for an ally in the fight against the Vamps, Emma finds hope and comfort in Jake’s arms. As she learns more about her new love’s family and its dark heritage, she may be forced not only to hunt them but to sacrifice her life to save Jake’s soul.

My Review:

Wow! Buffy watch out because Emma’s in town. Violet Midnight was compelling and action packed show stopper. From the very first chapter we are thrust into Emma’s world as a vampire hunter and soon after introduced to Jake who is a little newer to the hunting game than she is. I adored both of these characters. We get to see the story through both of their eyes and the chemistry between them sizzles. Emma is a kick butt heroine and Jake is nothing short of adorable and sexy. Something else I loved about this book was that is a welcome addition to the growing “New Adult” genre.  If you love YA but love a little more steam this book is sure to satisfy.

In a sea of vampire books, I was pleasantly surprised at how original this one was. I loved the spin on vampire hunters. As always, Lynn Rush has not disappointed. Clever dialog, action packed fight scenes, and romance that burns up the pages make this one a must read. Highly recommend to fans of paranormal romance.  Violet Midnight earns a big five stars from me!

Spotlight on: Unlikely Allies by Tiffany King

Unlikely Allies
Eighteen-year-old Kimberly gets the shock of her life when she learns the father she thought was dead is not only very much alive, but never even knew she existed. Angry with her mother for lying all these years, Kimberly flies to Colorado to meet the father she knows nothing about before heading off to college in the fall.
Her father’s world turns out to be nothing like she expected. Rather than the typical nine to five lifestyle, Kimberly’s father runs a summer foster camp that teaches young children skills to build their confidence and self-esteem. The Colorado Rocky Mountains are a different world than the sunny shores of California, taking Kimberly completely out of her element, and causing her to second-guess her spur of the moment decision.
Never being one to quit anything, Kimberly is determined to show her father that a surfer girl can fit into this rugged mountain wilderness. That is if she can deal with Mason, an arrogant nineteen-year-old guy who has made it his mission to point out every mistake she has made since her arrival. While she would love nothing more than to rub it in his know-it-all face, Kimberly can’t deny the feelings he stirs up inside her, or the chemistry between them, even during their verbal assaults.
When a tragic accident leaves them stranded in the mountains, Kimberly must use her shaky skills to save Mason and survive the elements. Suddenly, fighting is the last thing on their minds as they must rely on each other if they want to live. In their struggle for survival, they realize what they thought they knew about each other isn’t true after all.

I adore Tiffany King. As a person, and as an author, so I had a good idea going in that I would enjoy this book. But I wasn’t prepared for just how addictive Unlikely Allies turned out to be.

This book kept me walking on the treadmill for a lot longer than I had planned (double win), and staying up way too late at night to squeeze in a few more chapters before finally crashing and dreaming of mountains and trees and hot, arrogant men.

Yes, my subconscious aged Mason to a more acceptable age for a dream boyfriend.

So let’s start with Mason. I loved this hero. He came from a hard background, but didn’t let that define him. Even when he was picking on Kimberly, you knew from all the other characters that his behavior toward her was unusual. He genuinely cared about all the other campers and especially for Rick, Kimberly’s dad and Mason’s foster father. Of course the boy was hot, but what drew me in was his protectiveness, especially during the second half of the book.

And oh, the second part of the book. I enjoyed the first half, the set-up, getting to know Kimberly better, watching the relationship between her and her father build, and the friendships that she made with the other camp leaders, but it was the second half of the book that had me pounding the keys on my Kindle, needing to see what happened next. Ms. King pulls out all the stops when Mason and Kimberly are stranded in the mountains. You get a MAJOR swoon factor, you get danger, suspense, tender moments that had me teary-eyed, and conversations that make you laugh.

I’m an emotion girl, a character girl. And when an author can get me to fall in love with the characters, and gets me to experience the full range of emotions with them, they skyrocket to my favorites list. And this book did that. It also taught me a lot about wilderness safety and survival skills. Knowledge that I hope I never have to put into practice, but hey, good to know.

Kimberly was a fun heroine to live the story with—she was smart, artistic, funny, and had a good heart.  Her relationship with her mother was complicated, but understandable, and perhaps because Tiffany is a mother herself, she handled it respectfully. The mom made a major mistake, which was the inciting incident for this whole book, but she took ownership of it and in the end made up for her faults. Rick was perhaps my favorite character. He was a strong, caring dad who didn’t always see eye-to-eye with his California girl daughter, but he was always looking for that connection, that way to bond and show he cared, and their conversations about CW shows made me smile. The rest of the book is fleshed out with a wide variety of characters you get to know and truly care about, and I found myself hoping this would kick off a series of books. I’d love to know more about all of the friends she made in camp and during her first semester at college. One boy in particular (*grin*).

I recommend Unlikely Allies to anyone looking for a captivating read that will pull at your heartstrings and inspire you. It was fast-paced and fun and I know I’ll be reading it again in the future. If you’ve never read any of Tiffany King’s books before, start with this one…and then start playing catch up! You won’t regret it.

And now for an interview with the FABULOUS author, Tiffany King:

1)    Mountains or Oceans?
Okay, so, I want both LOL. I want the mountains when it's cold, so I can cuddle up by the fireplace while I write, and I want the ocean so I can sit outside writing to the crashing of the waves. To me that would be the perfect life.

2) If you could live in any YA paranormal book and/or have any YA literary hottie   boyfriend, who would it be?
Gah. I know everyone hates it when I pick this answer, but I would still go with Edward Cullen. Come on, you have to admit, SM created the perfect guy. Super strong, attentive, loves you beyond distraction, extremely attractive, and of course, the ultimate reason, he could fetch you a Blizzard from Dairy Queen before you could even get the question out.

3) Cookies or Brownies?
I'm a fan of both, but brownies win my heart over every time, matter of fact, I could go for one right now ;)

4) Summer camp as a kid, yes or no?
I went to summer camp twice when I was little. Both were only for a week, but I always wished I could go for the whole summer. Of course, I would die if I went camping now. I'm a techie girl and would miss my wifi way too much.

5) Last time you went camping as an adult?
Ummmmm, this will seriously age me, so I'll just say it was many, many, many years ago, when I was eighteen ;)

6) You write so fast and have so many amazing books coming out. What is your latest, and can you tell us a little about it?

Awwww, thanks. Coming from you, I take that as a huge compliment. My newest book is called Miss Me Not, and will be released at the end of November.

They had a pact.
Leave the world behind much as they had lived it.
No one would miss them. No harm, no foul.
Their personal demons would be left behind once and for all.
It was the only thing they could count on.
It was all she had.
Madison Hanson has spent the last four years being a "shadow." Her parents ignore her. The students at her school stopped talking to her years ago, and the majority of her teachers forget she's even there. In her desperate yearning to leave her invisible life behind, Madison makes a pact with her only friend, James Garrison, to end their lives as inconspicuously as they live them. No fuss, no muss. No one would miss her and she would miss no one. Their plan is set, and it's all she can count on. That is, until fellow student, Mitch Peterson, beats them to the punch. Everything Madison believed in is shaken to the core when she watches the aftermath of Mitch's death unfold. By taking his own life, Mitch unwittingly saves hers. What a selfish prick.
She is now left with the daunting task of living. Trying to bury her demons once and for all, and finally trusting someone with her fragile existence.
 Living is hell.
Death would have been so much easier.

Sounds awesome!!! Thanks for joining us, Tiffany!

I'm really excited to share my good news with you all. I signed on with Swoon Romance for a three-book novella series titled GAME. SET. MATCH. HEARTBREAK. The first novella, LOVE ALL, will be releasing in December 2012.

Now a senior, Meg catches the eye of not one but two guys at school. They show up at her tennis matches, vie over her attention, and both are gorgeous. Sounds good, right? Not if one of the guys is her boyfriend and the other one wants to be.

Meg doesn't want to lose Ash. They've been together for almost five months, and she’s falling in love with him. But Noah. Ah, Noah. He’s so irresistible, and Meg isn't ready to send him away either. Reaction: Reflection #2
By Jessica Roberts
Release Date: November 6, 2012

Book Description: (Spoilers if you haven't read Reflection!)
Harmony…

I’ve previously had that in my life, but only once, briefly, a while ago.  It was during the time I’d started my first year of college.  My own apartment, a new old car, and a life free of deadbeat stepfathers, all of which was fulfilling enough.  But if it wasn’t, I also had a best friend, soul mate, and boyfriend all in one.  Yes, life was near perfect.

But one stormy night can change everything…

For many months I rested in a prolonged sleep, fighting for my life.  Well, more than fighting for it, also dreaming of it.  Dreaming of him.  Thank goodness, the dream is over and I’m back in the real world now.  And all I want is for everything to return to the way it was.  But nothing’s the same; most of all, us.

Once again, I find myself at the crossroads of a ruthless battle, this time not for life, but love.  Do I fight for the guy I twice fell for, or do I let her take him away?
